JOHN HAMILTON - JANET SEMPLE

JOHN HAMILTON was born in Hamilton about 1781.

Son of THOMAS HAMILTON and MARGARET BLACK.

JANET SEMPLE was born in Glassford about 1780.

Daughter of WILLIAM SEMPLE and AGNES TENANT(?).

William Semple and Agnes Tennant were married in Avondale on the 13th of March 1768. (OPR Ref. 621/2, FR259)

John and Janet were married in Hamilton on the 26th of April, 1812. (OPR Ref. 647/3, FR788)

John is an Agricultural Labourer in Knowetop Farm on the 1841 census.

John and Janet were living in the village of Meikle Earnock in 1851. The entry indicates that John was 'Formerly a Farmer'.

    Agnes is widowed and living with her parents on the 1841 and 1851 census. She married James Fleming, son of Alexander Fleming and Elizabeth Gilmour.

John and Janet died within hours of each other in Meikle Earnock on the 3rd of March 1857.
