WILLIAM JAMIESON - MARGARET MARTINHOLME

WILLIAM JAMIESON was born c.1741. (From headstone inscription)

Martinholme is a fairly unusual name, and there are only two Margaret Martinholmes born in Avondale in the OPR index - 16th of September 1753 (to Gavin Martinholm) and 22nd of July 1755 (to James Martinholm). In typical Avondale OPR fashion, the mother's name is not given.

Children:

  1. Margaret Jamieson (b. Eaglesham c.1781).

    2. Margaret married John Strang (b. East Kilbride c.1771). They had at least two children. Margaret died at Shieldburn, East Kilbride, on the 23rd of March 1866. Her mother's maiden surname is given on her death certificate as MARTIN.

  2. Helen Jamieson, born in Nethertown of Eaglesham and baptised on the 9th of July 1797. (Transcribed from OPR)

    Elizabeth married James Strang, son of James Strang and Janet Baird.

There is a headstone in Eaglesham Churchyard which bears the inscription

THIS IS THE BURYING PLACE OF WILLIAM JAMIESON LATE FARMER IN NETHERTON OF EAGLESHAM WHO DIED THE 11TH MARCH 1814 AGED 72 YEARS AND OF MARGARET MARTIN...AND THE...CHILDREN

Much of the lower part of the headstone is indecipherable. However, the inscription puts William's year of birth at 1741 or 1742.
