THOMAS MCWILLIAM was born in Rutherglen and baptised on the 5th of April,

Son of John McWilliams and Mary Mathers.
MARGARET THOM was born in Blantyre on the 19th of March, 1810. (OPR
Ref. 624/1, FR361)
Daughter of John Thom and Janet Lindsay.
Thomas and Margaret were married in Blantyre on the 14th of August, 1830. (OPR
Ref. 624/4, FR885)
Thomas and Margaret are in the village of Lightburn, Cambuslang, on the 1851
census. Thomas' occupation is given as Hand Loom Weaver (Cotton). Margaret is
in Hamilton Road, Lightburn on the 1881 census (under her maiden name) and in
Cullochburn, Cambuslang, on the 1891 census.

John presumably died in infancy, as a later son was also named John.
- James McWilliam, born in Cambuslang and baptised on the 9th of March, 1834.

James married Janet Murdison (b. Glasgow c.1834) in Cambuslang on the
29th of December 1854. They had at least three children, one of whom (Margaret
Thom McWilliams) died young. They are at Lightburn on the 1861 census.
James was at one time a Cotton Weaver, but he is working as a Grocer in
Cambuslang on the 1881 census, living at 6 Colebrook Street. He died at
21 Clyde Street, Glasgow, on the 25th of February 1893. His occupation
was then Pattern Weaver.
- Margaret McWilliam, born in Cambuslang and baptised on the 21st of August,

Margaret married William Boyd (b. Cambuslang c.1832), Cotton Weaver,
son of Robert Boyd and Janet McCallum, in Lightburn on the 31st of December
1856. Her occupation is also given as Cotton Weaver. They are in Cambuslang
on the 1861 census. Margaret died at 34 Harvie Street, Glasgow, on the
16th of June 1870.
- Elizabeth McWilliam, born in Cambuslang and baptised on the 8th of September,
1839. (OPR Ref. 627/2, FR278)
Elizabeth married William McMillan (b. Fenwick, Ayrshire c.1832), Carter,
son of James McMillan and Janet Currie, in Cambuslang on the 13th of December
1860. On the 1881 census, William is now a Fruiterer, and they are living
at 125 Norfolk Street, Glasgow. Elizabeth, now widowed, is with her mother
and daughter in Cambuslang on the 1891 census. Elizabeth senior's occupation
is Fruiterer, and her daughter is a Shop Girl. Elizabeth died at Norfolk
Cottage, Farm Road, Blantyre on the 10th of October 1921.

- Janet McWilliam, born in Cambulang and baptised on the 9th of January, 1842.

Janet married Neil McNeil (b. Kingarth, Argyll c.1842), Blacksmith, son
of Richard McNeil and Jane Black, in Dalton, Cambuslang on the 15th of
June 1866. On the 1881 census they are living at Leaburn, East Kilbride.
They had at least seven children. Janet died at Edge Farm, Blantyre, on
the 28th of September 1920.
- Alexander McWilliam, born in Cambuslang on the 6th of April, 1845. (OPR

Alexander is working as a Cow Keeper at Blantyre Works Farm on the 1881
census. He married Elizabeth Gilmour Fleming (b. Hamilton c.1839), daughter
of James Fleming and Agnes Hamilton,
in Low Waters, Hamilton on the 3rd of November, 1865. They had at least
five children. Elizabeth is the sister of his brother Thomas' wife, Christina.
Elizabeth died in 1903, and Alexander later remarried (at the age of 77!),
to Jessie Cameron, Domestic Servant, (b. c.1886), daughter of James Cameron,
Farmer, and Catherine Connell, at 19 Howard Street, Glasgow, on the 9th
of February 1922. Alexander's place of residence was Sandyknowes, Blantyre
and Jessie's was 81 Cathcart Road, Glasgow. Although described as a Farmer
(Retired) on his death certificate, his occupation on Elizabeth's death
certificate is 'Butcher'. Alexander died at Pothill, Auchterarder, on
the 30th of August 1925.
- John McWilliam, born in Cambuslang on the 25th of December, 1847. (OPR

John never married. He was killed at the age of 17 when struck by lightning
near Hallburn Farm, Avondale, on the 24th of May 1865.
- Mary McWilliam, born in Cambuslang on the 20th of May, 1851. (OPR Ref.

Mary married William Logan (b. Glasgow c.1845), a Journeyman Iron Turner(?),
son of David Logan, Tailor, and Hannah McCulloch, at 63 Norfolk Street,
Glasgow, on the 28th of December 1872. On the 1881 census they are living
at 13 Norfolk Street; William is now an Engine Fitter. They had at least
two children. Mary died at 59 Carmichael Street, Govan, on the 13th of
June 1928.
- William McWilliam, born in Cambuslang on the 15th of July, 1853. (OPR

William married Janet Muir Rose, Domestic Servant, (b. Barrhead, Renfrew
c.1858), daughter of John Rose, Gardener/Domestic Servant, and Agnes Robertson,
at Riddrie Park on the 18th of July 1879. They had at least two children.
At the time of his marriage William was living at 125 Norfolk Street in
Glasgow. They are at Paterson's Land in Cumbernauld Road, Shettleston,
on the 1881 census. William's occupation on his marriage and death certificates
is Mason Journeyman, but the 1881 census has his occupation as Ice Salesman.
William died at 99 Nozier(?) Street, Partick, Glasgow, on the 10th of
December 1924.
John, Mary and William are at Lightburn on the 1861 census.
Thomas died in Lightburn on the
18th of March, 1881.
Margaret died at 125 Norfolk Street,
Glasgow, on the 23rd of December, 1891.
