ARCHIBALD RAMAGE was born at Moss-Side Cottage, Beath, on the 14th of May 1861.
Son of ROBERT RAMAGE and Margaret Blackwood.
Archibald was illegitimate - the name on his birth cerificate is Archibald Ramage Blackwood, and his father's name is not shown. On his marriage certificate and his death certificate his father's name is given as Robert Ramage, Coal Miner.
The only Robert Ramage in the whole of Fife on the 1871 census is a Coal Miner, living in Beath and married to Mariann Skinner. He was born c.1836, son of William Ramage and Alison Kirk.
Archibald is at 44 Priory Lane, Dunfermline, on the 1881 census. His occupation is Yarn Bleacher.
MARGARET DICK was born in Dunfermline c.1860.
Daughter of John Dick and Margaret Finlayson.
Margaret is possibly at 99 Pittencrieff Street, Dunfermline, on the 1881 census. She was a lodger with the Gibson family. Her occupation was Bobbin Winder of Linen - probably in a damask factory, as this is what is recorded on her marriage certificate.
Archibald and Margaret were married at Priory Lane, Dunfermline, on the 2nd of July 1882.
Witnessed by R Blackwood and Catherine McGregor. R Blackwood is possibly Robert Blackwood, Archibald's cousin.
Margaret's 'X' mark was witnessed by John Keith and James Gibson. John Keith is possibly Archibald's half-brother.

Archibald and Margaret are living at 17 Pittencrieff Street in 1884. They are at 75 Netherton Broad Street, Dunfermline on the 1891 census and at 150 Pittencrieff Street on the 1901 census. His occupation is given as Cloth Beetler and Pedlar Soft Goods respectively. At the time of his death in 1910 he was an Assistant Sanitary Inspector. At various other times his occupation is given as Causeway Labourer, Pedlar Linen Goods, Lamplighter and Gas Stoker.
